QUITE STILL, 2020
The name of the project refers to the still life («stilleven» (Dutch), «stilleben» (Deutsch), «nature morte» (French). Still life, as independent genre of art, was formed in Netherlands. Photography represents unconventional still life, to my opinion, because it also combines the elements of portrait and landscape. The decision to film domestic installations was the response to reality which was forcing into self-isolation. I use the tradition of still life to describe the world around us in the language of symbols by utilizing ordinary objects, and, at the same time, as scenographer and playwright, I try to expand it, by adding to the objects my own printed pictures and constructing installations. I also utilize atmospheric phenomena: fire and winds. With the help of mentioned means of expression, I convert the images of external and media world into the symbols in domestic territory, creating special art reality full of unexpressed sensations, self-reflection, and willingness to overcome the claustrophobic aspect of situation.
